Artist's Comments

Medium: CGI, Adobe Photoshop

This art was an original Black and White drawing by Idol Hands and was the first art I saw drawn by this individual. I secretly wished to see this piece of art colorized as I later saw this person's talent color rendering other works of art by other individuals, but somehow knew that it would be very difficult to colorize a black and white pencil sketch, so I took up one of Hercules' labors and decided to render this piece using Adobe Photoshop [ CGI enhanced image ]. I had no clue how difficult be or how long it take, as my ultimate goal was to maintain the integrity of the original art, to allow the original pencil strokes show through my manipulation, and I think I've done a decent job of that, there were only a couple instances with the silver fixtures where I just could not manipulate the original sketch art back into it and have it look silver, but I didn't have that same problem with the steel pieces, where the original line strokes actually enhanced the look and feel of steel.

It literally took a year of work to complete this piece as it was extremely labor intensive between the color work, the layering techniques, and the clean up work right down to the pixel level.

At first I wasn't certain with the contrasting color combinations I chose half way through some of the work, but I refused to start over and 'take it back', and discovered it all pulled together quite nicely as a finished piece. I'm extremely pleased how it turned out.

Tall. Tall and absurdly thin. And good-natured. A bit like a preying mantis that doesn’t prey -- a non-preying mantis if you like. A sort of pleasant genial mantis that’s given up preying and taken up tennis instead.

Congratulations. That's what really needs to be said. I know this has been a labor of love for you with a year's worth of effort snuck into the demands of your life.

I could never have expected such dedication to a work of art that I never expected to come out of me. I hope ~Oompaloompafan will post it shortly. It's also been a pleasure to be given so many sneak peaks along the way.

What's always impressed me was your dedication to the textures and finer details of a piece that never expected to see the light of color. For anyone viewing this, please do note the plush of the jacket, the individual paisley colors, the dimension in the skin, true tones of gold/silver and plastic sheen of the glove. There was great care taken with Charlie's hair and the scruff of his shirt. These are the sort of things :lefemme: pained after and the sort of patience the artist is capable of. Such abilities remind me exactly of Pixar, a company whose works I greatly admire.

Thank you Idol for your lovely review, and saying the things I haven't been awake enough to remark on.

I haven't submitted this to Oompaloomafan yet because I'm still working on my comments AND, I'm also working on a video [ music video ] illustrating the graduating processes and individual elements of this work for a better appreciation of the time it took me to work on this piece....but luck would have it, I'm working this weekend, so hopefully I'll find enough energy somewhere and stay awake enough to finish it this weekend, but if I don't, you know I'll keep working on it until I do! ;)

Oh... and, thanks for the 'props' from your journal

I often make funny faces too, and I love how you did that through emoticons, but I don't understand why your eyebrows got progressively higher, they can only go so high! :D

They didn't shoot up. It was more of an inching motion.

STUNNING. The colour work on Willy's collar is just.. absolutely mesmerizing. The detail on Charlie's teeth and comes is spectacular, and his dimples! oh so cute. This is amazing <3 favefosho.

Thank you very much, I really appreciate your commentary!

I don't know if you've explored my dA, but I have other Wonka works that others have described as stunning also, albeit, this is the only CGI of the bunch, still, I'm rather proud of my color pencil work. It may be worth your time to look? :)
